lyrics
Your ghost is a hungry memory
Haunts me wherever I go
I know him all too well
He’s been here all along
And now you’re gone
I see that I didn’t know what longing was
I didn’t know what it meant to miss someone
Didn’t know how the heart could ache
But I’ll keep trying to love this hungry ghost
You won’t look me in the eye
But I could watch you all year You’ll be looking far away
To some place I’ll never go
While your ghost haunts my vision
Just like a dream I can’t wake up from
Always somewhere at the edge of sight
Speaking loudest in the dead of night
Hungry
But I’ll keep fighting to love this hungry ghost
And somewhere I am told
You are alive and well
Not a ghost in sight
But how do you manage
To haunt my waking days
Haunt my bed at night
Your song
tears me down, moves me along
And I am left here on my own
Those devastation blues setting in
And I would love you if you’d let me
Yes I would sing you to sleep each night
I’d put only good things in your sight
Let you be and hold you tight
But I know I’m better off alone
Cause it’s no one can love a hungry ghost
I have listened to bluegrass and old-timey style banjo music for many years. Nora Brown has the most poetic interpretation of these styles that I have heard so far. She is the John Fahey of banjo (but also with striking vocals). brit_b
The second EP from Northern Irish singer-songwriter Bea Stewart runs from gentle folk to pillowy pop ballads, all perfectly executed. Bandcamp New & Notable Apr 15, 2024
Stirring Americana set to acoustic arrangements and topped by the legendary Alice Gerrard’s lovely, world-wise voice. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 23, 2023
I had the immense pleasure and privilege of catching Miriam's recent set at Jalopy in Brooklyn and immediately snagged this lovely set of tunes. The sense of natural melodicism and overall flow of this writing is highly inspiring throughout. For stylistic reference, it's occasionally evocative of Sandy Denny's work but at other times Clouds-era Joni Mitchell and so much more. All tastefully crafted in a wholly modern way which seems uniquely hers. Max Kutner
