about
This is a cover of the great Paul Simon song "The Only Living Boy in New York" as arranged and produced by musician/producer Alexander Zimmer in the summer of 2009, with help from his friends and family. We're releasing it this year in memory of Alexander (aka Zim/Xander/Exie), who passed away in January 2021.
It feels to us like a poignant tribute since Paul Simon is said to have written the song when Art Garfunkel flew down to Mexico to shoot a movie, leaving Simon behind feeling isolated and bereft.
Download the song for free or donate; all proceeds will go to Die Jim Crow Records, the first record label in the U.S.A. for formerly and currently incarcerated musicians.
“Death to Jim Crow means a death to stereotypes, to misconceptions of the 'Other'. There is no Other...Die Jim Crow Records aims to change this narrative through music”.
-- Fury Young, Executive Director of Die Jim Crow Records
Tom, get your plane right on time
I know your part'll go fine
Fly down to Mexico
Da da-n-da...
And here I am
The only living boy in New York
I get the news I need on the weather report
Oh, I can gather all the news I need on the weather report
Hey, I've got nothing to do today but smile
Da da-n-da...
And here I am
The only living boy in New York
Half of the time we're gone
But we don't know where, we don't know where...
Tom, get your plane right on time
I know that you've been eager to fly now
Hey, let your honesty shine, shine, shine now
Da da-n-da...
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in New York
